Save Earth from Asteroid

Many Asteroids are in the path of Earth.
Some missed the Earth while others arrived in the form of meteors.
Some are small while others are big.
Why wait for a collusion with a big one?
If Fighter planes are made to take human life then why not Fighter Spacecrafts to tackle asteroids?
Practice can be started by tackling the missing Asteroids with unmanned fighter spacecrafts.
Do not wait for an Asteroid similar to one, which wiped dinosaurs million years ago.
